When You Go to a Professional Baseball Tryout
At pro baseball tryouts, various scheduled activities happen which a likely pro baseball player must recognize. The first is that they must register and confirm their permission to attend the tryout. Dozens of baseball players who are still in college or junior college have to be aware of this because certain regulations which could prohibit them from participating in the tryout, let alone getting signed. Once the registration process is done, the professional baseball tryout is broken up into two segments. Infielders and outfielders stretch, get timed in the 60 yard dash, and they will have to prove arm strength. This is done by making outfielders throw to home plate; and infielders throw all the way across the diamond. Some tryouts also have the position players run from home to first, or from home plate to second base. They are evaluating physical strength and mechanics.Pitchers and catchers usually go off to the other part of the field. Pitchers usually will throw a called bullpen session, and the catchers are being graded on mechanics of how well they receive the throws from the pitchers. Catchers then get measured in their home plate to second base throwing times, with the objective of making accurate throws on a line in a lot less than 2 seconds. Toward the end of minor league baseball tryouts often pitchers will face live hitting in a test of mechanics and overall skill levels.
