Robin Hood Foundation’s Annual Dinner 2008
The Robin Hood Foundation organizes an annual star-studded dinner held at only the most posh places. It is almost a surreal occasion where members of the elite meet in an elegant place, drown themselves with expensive wine, dine on a very expensive banquet — and take out checkbooks to help the needy.
This year, $56.5 million was raised while last year’s event raised $72 million — all in one night. This fantastic event also includes star performances. Last year included Aerosmith. This year’s annual dinner, held last May 27, 2008 featured the Jonas brothers, Shakira, Sheryl Crow, Conan O’Brien, John Legend and Wyclef Jean, among others.
The foundation’s Board of Directors is equally star-studded, with Gwyneth Paltrow among its Directors. The Board pays for all overhead, counting the salaries of the foundation’s employees.
The Robin Hood Foundation has been helping New York’s poorest since 1988. Its main mission is to combat poverty thru education and employment and economic security. They also provide basic survival needs for the poorest of the city – food, shelter, clothing. Prevention of child abuse and the youth’s health and education are also given attention.
What is also so laudable about this group is that all proceeds, which amount to millions, do not go anywhere else but charity. These people truly raise the bar when it comes to giving without taking.
